They all had TCS sets for that purpose. Larger ships
had them on the bridge. Smaller ones (like LSTs) had them
in Radio, which was either the next compartment or the second
compartment aft of the bridge, depending on the prints
the builder was given. Not all Class 1 or Class 2 LSTs
were exactly the same.

Having a Merchant Marine set is a possibility, but comes
under the category of "non-standard modifications."

Would be interesting to hear if that ever happened. It was
a revelation to me to find that the TBS (bridge-to-bridge 60-80 mHz AM)
set turned out to be an ETO artifact only. (for LSTs, at least) The PTO
ships quickly adopted the SCR508/608 tank FM sets for this purpose, apparently
with blessing from higher authority. The operators there found FM to
be superior under adverse conditions, plus they could listen in on ground
action and beach activities.

Next question might be....did those PTO ships using FM keep a Collins MBF
around to be compatible with TBS ships? The thread goes on and on..... :-)
