[Milsurplus] BC-224-B Question

I've come upon an issue with a BC-224-B that I need some help on.

I have a dead short from B+ to ground. I disconnected the B+ lead from the
power supply and see that the short is in the receiver, not the power
supply. I've been going through the numerous B+ bypass caps but have yet to
find the short.

Here's the weird thing. The short is somewhat intermittent. When it clears
up, the set plays well. However, after a short time, there is a loud snap
and the short reappears. The loud snap seems like a good clue but I'm not
sure exactly what it means. Any ideas?

Also, are there any hidden caps in a BC-224, other than the one in the box?
Recently, you guys helped me out by pointing me to some hidden Micramolds in
a BC-342 that I was totally unaware of.

As always, thanks.
