Hue:
I'd rather find a cheap/working -77 than dig into a -25. In that way I have a more power efficient SS final in one unit (the -77) and I keep both units as they were when first fielded.
I'm sure one can redesign almost any BA circuit to update it to modern technology (e.g., the Drake mod to delete the hollow state rectifier in the PS to coof off the PTO above it, resulting in less drift.) For my money, I'll keep my -25 as-is; C-batts are cheap enough and I use the radio so infrequently that I can replace the batts each year for $6 or so from the Dollar store.
My 2 cents.

Subject: [Milsurplus] Re: PRC-25 Final
I understand the PRC-25 uses a hollowstate final. That would seem to be less than
ideal, as it #1 will need to be replaced somewhere down the line, altho the actual
duty hours of your PRC-25 are less than when it was working for a living, and #2
the DC-DC supply required for the B+ has to be a power waster. Has anyone
thought about solidstating the final? For a watt or two level, it can't be that difficult
a proposition. -Hue Miller
