The untuned LORAN loop I've been using for many years is simply 4 nails driven
into the studs on a gable end of my attic in a square about 5 feet per side, then
a 250 ft spool of #14 THHN house wire was wrapped around the nails and both ends
connected to a chunk of RG-58 to the receiver. It works well for LORAN as I said.
The loop is not shielded, although it could easily be done with aluminum or
copper tape, and is apparently does not need to be with the Austron receiver I
used. There are to TV sets with CRTs located within 20 feet of the loop and the
Austron does not loose track for many months at a time.
