I hadn't even considered SARAH, David, and I also have both the 
Rescue Beacon plus the Aircraft mounted equipment. However, I think 
it's too early for that system. These antennas were in use around

Now, I have to say: AHA!
There was some discussion on here a long time ago about the Yagi-Uda 
antenna not being used by the country of invention, and the first 
documented use in WW2 was on the A-bomb casing.  Here is disproof of 
that first use idea.  Or did I remember incorrectly?  The German A/C 
radar sure used a lot of three element Yagis, judging from the 
unexpurged photos, which were difficult to find for a long time after 
the conflict.  Another question for the ages: Why so long?
