My father-in-law was @ Sperry on Long Island starting early '42.  Just
outa OSU physics/EE.  Has his name on the bolometer patent.

He sed Capitol Airlines Lodestars* were used @ night in early '41 as
radar surveilance.  Baggage door taken off nose & long cylindrical
enclosure substituted by night.  Within same was the RADAR ANTENNA
part of a vhf British set.

Supposedly they found some targets, coasted in, & surprised the ----
outa the craft when they swept over with landing lights on.
Have no idea about armament

Must guess yagi inside plywood cylinder.  AND.  Have 2 footstools/
kid's toyboxen made from one.

Maybe 3 years back, told Ben in GB this tale & he thinks he saw such
in a North England aircraft exhibit.

Anybody have more in 2006?
