Carrier frequency tolerance for a AM broadcast station is 50 cycles,
their is no methods or attempt to FSK any AM broadcast transmitter that
I am aware of. it is a common practice to FSK the carrier of a LPTV or
Television translator with the station ID but not AM or FM stations.
The EAS system no longer require voice announcements for weekly test
and many stations set their EAS encoder to randomly transmit the weekly
test so it will cut into programing and transmit the three burst
sequences at odd times during the week. On the TFT 911 EAS encoder I am
using at a number of stations we can set them to do the random weekly
test within a set range of hours so we don't test over morning or
afternoon drive but other then that they are random with no
announcement. Real EAS announcements are received by the decoder and
stored digitally and then sent with the incoming announcement. each
stations can set the level of announcements they want to forward by
selecting what FIPS codes they will allow to interrupt programing. their
are codes for almost every type of event, the only one required to be
forwards is the national emergency but most stations also include the
codes for sever weather and other disasters. EAS technology replaced the
EBS system that replaced the older Conolrad stuff, their is a effort to
install a new satellite base system known as EM net but the FCC still
only require EAS.
