I got to watch the rest of it too (first part) after tuning in late a
few weeks back. Loved the take-off scene where the aircraft pretty
much buzzes the camera. Also got a kick out of the 'check-in'
procedures for pilots, and someone having a gun on board without folks
objecting too much.
Among others, I saw the BC-375 clearly in several shots. It was
definitely a boatanchor-rich movie, with excellent clarity and that
nice, rich, 50s color.
Some of the guys were talking about this movie a few months back,
along with "Islands in the Sky" which I recently saw advertised (on
TCM I think? Would be great with no commercials). Can't recall the
nomenclature for the big transmitter with all of the controls and
labels. TDE? TED? I bet it's 'T' something! A nice RAL or RAK showed
up next to the big transmitter.
I did find the 'hispanic's part to be a bit off the deep end, but was
surprised at the Duke's more quiet, subtle performance. Overall I
liked the movie and wonder if anyone else sees it as the grandaddy to
the crop of 'Airport' films of the 70s?
Just when you think you've seen them all...
