Foster -

Well that explains it.  I have the BC-348 original audio transformer 
tapped at 3000 - Ohm output, piped to the output jack. This feeds into 
the outboard speaker box.  Since the output does not have to produce a 
lot of volume to drive a 4" speaker thus saturation is not a issue.  The 
bass tone sounds nice.
