I was told that the main reason the OT ops didn't care for the RBB 
contraptions was that they tended to overload more easily than the 
RAK/L, by nearby transmitters which were not on the receive frequency.

(I hope I said that understandably: I've been up all night...)

The RAK/L has two RF amp stages, and although it has been over 40 
years since I had an RBB/RBC pair, IIRC, they had only ONE RF stage, 
and thus were possibly broader in the RF stage ahead of the mixer, 
than the RAK/L was ahead of its regen detector.
