[Milsurplus] Question about SCR and AN nomenclature

SCR was "Set, Complete, Radio"   SCR-499 Radio Set

SCS was "Set, Complete, System"  SCS-51 Instrument Landing System

BC was "Basic Component".

VT was "Vaccum Tube".

The whole list is a yard long, but there's a few URL's that have the info.

My info is from what we were taught in 1945.

The original was JAN/GRC-32, JAN/whatever.  Joint Army and Navy.
JAN is used, but the rules are too detailed for me.      

Before you try to make a lot of sense out of this, remember how many
agencies had their finger in the politics and the money.
