I suspect that the early SCR numbers were assigned to individual radios,
not systems. This may be why all of the lists start with SCR-44 or
so. Pre-1914, the Signal Corps may have only had 43 complete radios total.
BCs do indeed start at BC-1. BC-5s show up from time to time on Ebay (it
is a wood chest - not too exciting to most folks).
