[Milsurplus] B-36 run-up

In the mid-1950's while stationed at Midway NAS we had three of these bad 
boy make emergency landing
on the island in one day, all with engine problems.  They are huge when 
flying over a city so you can imagine
what they looked like coming across an island less than a mile wide and 
about 2 miles long.  They had to touch down right at the very edge of the 
runway, throw all engines in full reverse thrust and when they stopped at 
the far end of the runway the nose gear was on the sand overrun.  One had 3 
or 4 engines shut down and came the last few hundred miles on the remaining 
engines and the jets.Just before touch down they started the bad engine and 
you could barely see the plane for all the black smoke as the engine slowly 
burned up
