[Milsurplus] TCS-12 was main Buff commo system???

That's indeed strange (the stainless steel .45 LeMay special), because when
LeMay became Chief of Staff he switched the AF over to S&W Combat
Masterpiece .38s, which I thought was a step backwards. After all, the
.45ACP had been developed because the .38 was ineffective in stopping power.
I think the switch was made because some people had trouble using the .45,
and since it was a single action autoloader, it took two hands to get it
ready to fire. One didn't carry it around with a round chambered.
Fortunately LeMay didn't switch us all over to air pistols, one of which he
kept in his office for an occasional plink at the wastebasket or whatever. I
have no idea what this has to do with SSB, except for the colorful
personality involved.
