A few years ago, while teaching antenna theory at a local technical
college, I got the bright idea to run out about 100 feet of wire 10 feet of
the ground and end fed thru a tuner. Connected 10 meter transmitter to it
and sent a carrier. Would walk the length of the wire with flouresence
touching the wire. you could see the sine wave of the radiated signal very
clearly. By this will shoot down the idea that long wires are just top
hats for the vertical part of the wire
