I used an NE-51 (I think) taped up near the top of
my Master Mobile Hy-Q mobile system on 75m with
Gonset Twins AM setup. Did the same deal. 'Twas
even more interesting (goofy?) when I then went
over to SSB!

One time, a dragonfly lit at the top of the antenna
at a parking lot. The 75m output of the Gonset
G-77A into that antenna truly turned said bug into
a "crispy critter."

Many years ago in the early days if 11-meter CB, a company came out with a
line of antennas called the "Speakin Beacon." It was simply a 1/4 wave
vertical with a neon lamp at the top. Of course, the lamp glowed in time
with the modulation. They sold zillions of them.
