Along the same lines as the little neon bulb I had taped to my mobile
2m CB some years back when I worked nights. Used to talk with a
machinist friend (N1TLW) who was coming home on the interstate from
the opposite direction and he said he could see it when he passed.
Just tape one leg to the antenna and leave the other free. Works
great, especially with 50 watts. Just be careful of low branches and
overhangs if you have it on a tall vehicle like a pick up.
Never thought to try Dave's dipole approach. They'd probably sic the
MIB onto me. Sounds like fun, though.
Wonder if you could use one of those little neons at the end if a
BC-611 at hamfests and such? If you don't mind wasting a little RF,
that is.
