Hue,
It's clear the thing on ebay is just the receiver unit only. I was just as
curious as you about this thing.
I studied the pictures closely and found the tuning cap has no other way to
be adjusted other than some sort of coupling from the right-hand side, as
viewed facing the panel. That confirmed to me the "tuner" listed in the
system equipment tag is likely some sort of mechanical device (and
according to Robert's recent posting, rather an electromechanical device).
It would evidently be coupled to that "arm-like" appendage affixed to the
cap shaft outboard of the support bracket as seen in one of the pictures.
Also in that same view, showing the right-front side, one can see a cable
dangling with what appears to be a PL-55 plug on it. This may be part of a
feedback circuit to command the tuner to drive the tuning cap motor till a
sig is found (or rather stop the tuner motor when one is found?)
So, in order to make a complete set, the CWQ-10177 tuner unit needs to be
found. May be like hen's teeth - probably not too many made. I personally
wouldn't pass up the rx at auction anyway since I could simply tune it by
hand. But I had better not spend much until I find a job(!). Also, that
shipping cost seems a little bit high to me. I'm just at the other end of
the state from him. What do you think?
Wonder what the complete cabinet looked like that the rx and tuner fit
into? Had to have had some sort of cover.
Regards, Chris F.
