[Milsurplus] RS-6/ TRC-77

As long as the group is talking about the RS-6 I have to ask a question,
was the six replaced by the TRC-77? , both appear to have questionable
value. Not in a Ham Radio context, where operator skill and low power
QRP operations are highly refined, but in a tactical military context
where power is king I have to wonder what the function of these low
power radios were, perhaps they were low power to prevent enemy radio
location?
Also the RS-6 appeared in relatively large numbers on the surplus
market, way more then you would think that would be produced for
clandestine operations, of course so do the TRC-77 sets but no where
near the number of sixes.
