John (jwatkins) obviously didn't read the article he's writing about. If he
read it (and understood), T. E. Lawrence was complaining about the
incompetence of the British civil authorities in Mesopotamia (as today's
Iraq was called then by the British) who ran it not in accordance with the
official British policies, oppressing the local population and exploiting
the resources for their own benefit.
Reading the article will show that there are no discernible parallels with
today's situation. Lawrence refers to a colonial goverment running
uncontrolled by the Foreign Ministry in London, whereas today they have a
government elected by free elections.
And just FYI John, we WON in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Afghanis and the
Iraqis won as well - they have ELECTED governments.
As to the military still being there, - we still have troops in Europe,
and the Far East - how many years after we WON there too?
Back to green radios!
