Howsoever, i'd  ask, is the wire antenna versus the aircraft a balanced
transmission line? The characteristic impedance to (true) ground are
certainly different for these 2 legs.  If you fold a long jeep whip antenna
down over the body, do you have no radiation? No- you get horizontally
polarized radiation ( but  the only place it can go it straight up and down. )
If the horizontal element was a capacity booster only, you would not
have had the effort to place the far end as high as possible. -Hue
