The early SCR-183 started out with black wrinkle finish too, but it seems in 1940
or 1941 they went to the unpainted aluminum also, while the Navy's derivative,
RU/GF, started and finished with black wrinkle.
I still wonder why, really, the paint was necessary on any of them, if the Army's
sets worked perfectly well. And why the USA settled on black wrinkle, when
other countries also used blue, grey, olive.
