The AN/URC-58 was the HF-SSB set installed in Vietnam-era PCF swift boats, and according to some vets I know, actually received a great deal of actual use, in addition to the AN/VRC-46 VHF-FM and AN/PRC-41 UHF-AM communications gear generally carried aboard.

The US Army's version of the RF-301 was the AN/GRC-165.  Other than the URC-58 being navy gray and the GRC-165 being army olive drab, I don't think there were any significant differences.

When the site can be accessed (I couldn't get a response earlier), you might want to search the US Army manual download website at http://www.logsa.army.mil for "GRC-165" to see if anything is available there that doesn't need a password.  I seem to recall there was an operator's manual there in the past.
