Hi William & all,
Actually, I have found just the opposite to be true. I have been able =
to latch on to beautiful post war ARC stuff with little or no indication =
of use. It may be my location (the heart of aircraft dismantling and a =
one time great surplus location) but even when I lived outside of Phila =
the surplus at Lakehurst was fantastic as far as quality & quanity =
went. I agree there are some real oddballs out there in fact your =
ARC-57 sounds interesting. I once pulled an ARC-55 from a helicopter =
that had been converted from an ARC-27A to 55 configuration (still have =
that radio). I also have complete ARC-27A's and a few ARC-55's(I think) =
if anyone is looking for a complete radio, I also have the proper =
mounts. For my perpective, these radios were a marvel of the times and =
really neat to get up and running, they are though a bit noisey!

I think one of the problems (other than being ham-unfriendly) is that=20
they tend to be pretty rare, and when found, beaten beyond belief. At=20
least this is what I find! Quite a few of the ARCs were produced in=20
quantities of several hundreds or thousands - not the five or six =
digits=20
found in World War 2 aircraft sets. It seems that the military was=20
loathed to give them up too early, as well.
I have a bunch of AN/ARC-27 modules, if anyone needs parts. I also =
have=20
some AN/ARC-57s (UHF radio for the Hustler, a real oddball) for trade. =
I=20
am currently looking for the control box and rack for an AN/ARC-33 =
(one=20
of the very recent new toys).
