[Milsurplus] What does the star mean?

In the long term, nothing. Or the short term, for that matter. If the 
"star" sets (AN/ARR-1, AN/ARR-2, AN/APN-1. Any others?) were to be 
Amry/Navy/British sets, why did the AN/ART-13 not get one? Certainly we 
have seen AN/ART-13 parts with Air Ministry markings, as well as Navy and 
Signal Corps tags.

Apparently a very short lived plan...
