Ever thought about one of the advertised-on-TV replating kits
that supposedly (and maybe actually) lay down some silver or gold
on silverware, bracelets, etc.? At least one of them appeared to
involve a pattery, and so it may have been real electroplating.

Not much use if you're trying to keep it looking like it just
came off the assembly line, but probably OK for something you'll
actually _use_. Or you could use a metal-filled epoxy to hold
a thin shim of tinned copper. Probably want to test the epoxy
first, for conductivity and sticking power.
