[Milsurplus] RCA CR88 & meters - conducting oxide balm

My gray CR88 had a reverse reading S-meter.  Like a Hallicrasters.

Thot 'CR' meant made in Canadia.  I might have been dreaming.

Another subject...

Have a battery holder that once had a cell rot tinning off on one
contact.  I can hit it w. sandpaper & smear on a little grease &
things OK for half year.  Then gotta doit again.

Can't just re-tin it w. solder since swaged in plastic box.

Is there some electro-balm that's a fix?  Better yet, a household
chemical??
