Another interesting book is, "History of Communications-Electronics in the
United States Navy," 1963, by Captain L. S. Howeth, USN (Retired).  655
pages.  It covers the whole radio history from before WWI, the interwar
period, and WWII.  It includes the spark vs arc controversy, (arc won) early
Radar pictures, etc.  Don't ask me where to get it - I bought mine at a
radio flea market for a trifle.
