"History is a set of inaccuracies we have all decided to believe."
   Napoleon

"You can vote, but if I count the votes, what you gonna do?"
  Boss Tweed

"It depends on what the definition of "is" is."
  William Jefferson Clinton

"Damn an eye witness anyway.
They sure know how to ruin a good story."
   Harry Truman

"History belongs to whomever successfully records it."
   Me

We are human beings, not time machines.
We cannot hope to have a 100% accurate account
of what we ate for breakfast over the last week,
much less the complicated and convoluted events
and motivations of sixty years ago.
What happened when and why will always be open to question.
All we can do is try to capture the spirit of the time
as closely as possible and- most importantly-
too keep an open mind about what we may
or may not think about any given point.

We owe it to the people of those times to be as faithful
as we may, and we owe it to ourselves to forgive our imperfections.
