The problem with depending on the web for information is twofold:
1. Really worthwhile information which takes some effort tends to be
copyrighted when it is published in whatever form. Thus, wbe presence is
problematical.
2. There is no method to reliably purge
incorrect/misleading/inflammatory information, or even identify that it
is wrong in many cases.
One of the minor themes running through this thread is the disagreement
about some of the 'genesis' actions where this equipment was designed and
by whom. Different people have different information, and believe their
version to be the TRUTH. I spent a little time in designing electronic
equipment which later went into production, and I have obsevred first
hand how a good story displaces truth, once the gear is out in hte field.
It is perfectly reasonable to expect someone to gather a bunch of
'brother-in-law worked there' information, put it all together on a web
page and a couple of years later it becomes the unassailable fact. Those
of you who frequent some of the newsgroups immediately recognize that few
people will bother to attempt to consult standing references published in
books before posting nonsensical questions. The Antennas NG is a perfect
example. If even a passing familiarity with Kraus, Jasik and Johnson,
Terman and LaPorte was required before posting, that NG would be empty.
