Others With Same Opinion Noise, Noise, Noise, Noise!!! Re: [MilCom] Anti-war Activists Call for End to Annual Blue Angels Airshow in S.F

The whole attitude is sadly part of the US culture
today. Sometimes it is brought on by individual
selfishness, and sometimes it is brought on by
stupidity in some *other* segment of society, such as
government officials. On the former, case in point:
in parts of the US (mostly western) you got people who
are moving away from the cities and "up into the
hills" and into areas where wild critters live. So
they build their swanky houses and put the family dog
"Fluffy" out in the back yard, and wonder why when
they go to retrieve "Fluffy" a few hours later, all
they find is a mangled corpse. Well, some wild
critter found lunch staked out and waiting (because
the dumbass people didn't *bother* to even THINK about
the environment they were moving into). Their
reaction? Kill ALL the wild critters to make THEIR
neighborhood safer - conveniently ignoring the notion
that the "neighborhood" belonged to the wild critters
before the people came and squatted on it.

As for the latter, here in Indiana the NW part of the
state is up in arms about a proposed huge highway
bypass that would take travellers from the Indiana
Toll Road south, then west and *around* the whole mess
of the Chicago/Gary "region". Great idea - BUT, they
want to do what they've done with the Toll Road which
is to privatize the thing which is NOT popular with
the locals because it gives some group a private
monopoly on a public resource. So the movement to
stop the project is well underway.

And that brings us back to noise and airshows - we had
a case year a couple years back where a lady who
raises dogs and lives near the Indianapolis/Mount
Comfort airport (host of the Indianapolis Airshow) was
complaining that the noise was bad for her dogs.
Never mind that the show had been going on there for
probably 20+ years and all of the sudden, she had a
problem (wonder what the REAL agenda was?) -
fortunately, she got pretty well stomped upon and
while THAT was good, there was a lot of outright
hateful responses from the pro-airshow side. That's
unfortunate because it doesn't make OUR cause look so
good. There WERE some offers to her to let her take
her dogs somewhere else for that weekend, which (I
don't recall) may have solved the problem, at least
for now.

As for all these other places, you can pretty well
figure that "noise" is an excuse for those who think
any kind of military display is an example of
"warmongering" (and I don't know this lady from Indy
but I wouldn't be surprised if that was true down
there as well) and there's always some person or group
of persons who are military-haters. They'll use any
means to demonstrate, frustrate, etc., to the best of
their ability.

I defend their right to their opinions, but *I* get
mad (and start writing to elected officials) when
those opinions cease being opinions and start becoming
ill-conceived actions.

Well folks - those of us who want airshows to continue
and include military aircraft need to do MORE than
just sit and "preach to the choir" here at
Milcom....make your voice heard and felt to the SAME
officials that the airshow-haters do and work to
protect what you love. It worked here in Indiana; the
counter-opinion against that lady with the dogs was
very likely instrumental in saving the show. If
you're not gonna do that, then don't complain if the
shows either go away or lose their military
components. Stand up and be heard!
