Overall I think that security has become more friendly to radio scanner
hobbyists. HOWEVER, got to admit most milcom hobbyists do look suspicious
with all those scanners, extra batteries, long antennas, milcom tshirts,
hats, bulging multi pocket pants, vests, etc.... Add in those of them that
are into photography and it's a security inspection nightmare - Ya can just
about hear them say heeeww, at least we don't have that many of "them" after
we go through the inspection point!!!!
Last year at KBAF's airshow they were also wearing surgical type latex
gloves & I commented to them, wow you are even doing full body cavity
searches this time around???!!! That got a chuckle from the guys
inspecting!!!!
Surely, there's been some "misunderstandings" involving security forces at
airshows with "guests" in the past, BUT overall considering the security
status we are in, you can still bring your portable scanners, cameras, &
accessories into the show area AFTER an appropriate detailed inspection.
BTW it doesn't hurt to try the camera bag first and if you get turned around
have an alternate plan for revising what you will initially bring in. If
you are parked on base you can normally return to your car and get
additional supplies.
