It may also be a federal felony. Not that denying you your Constitutionally
protected rights is known to be wrong by most federal employees.

Actually the Amateur bands were available to the military all along. Since
WWII, the military has sided with the hams to keep the ham bands in place.
One of the important lessons of WWII was that the group of techies who grew
up to be hams were the people who could actually make things work under the
worst conditions. Almost all military radios cover the adjacent ham bands
but those frequencies are only supposed to be used during wartime. We are
NOT at war now.
