Phone is easy. You need a phone jack (of course) and a voltage
(current?) detector.

As I recall, there is a huge push of voltage (current?) on the phone
line to drive the old analog bells. I want to say that it is on the
order of 60Vdc with low amps, but I might have that backwards. That's
why in the old days, you were supposed to disconnect the phone before
working on it. Else, you might get a big shock. (I did) Of course,
now days, people don't work on phones. In any event, it should be easy
to detect.

Another way is to plug the phone line into the modem, and listen to the
serial port. The modem should send a string such as *RING*.

As for the door bell, if it is wired, I would do the same as a phone,
just tap the circuit.
