J.B.,

 From 11 June 2006:
-------------------------------------------------------
"Hello Lowfers,
I'm happy to announce that there is a new Lowfer beacon on the
air at 188.8 kHz. It is transmitting EAR in QRSS10 mode and I
plan to leave it on 24/7 powered from my solar panels and wind
turbine.

I would like to thank everyone on the list for their comments and
suggestions that have helped me achieve this goal. A special
thank you goes to Mitch, of MP fame, who not only offered to
etch the circuit boards for the exciter and final for me, but
also populated and tested them!

The rig is based on circuits from the W1TAG and K0LR websites
with the exciter in the shack feeding power and RF out to the
final at the feedpoint. A small variometer and basket-weave
loading coil tunes a "T" antenna suspended between two of my
towers. Keying is done with ON7YD's QRS program running on
an old 486 laptop.

Reports and captures would be much appreciated.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Looking through the old emails, it appears that you made some tuning
network improvements around the 3rd week in July, 2006. Screen shots
then started coming in from Bill de Carle, Roger Magnusson and others.
My first EAR capture was in MA on 23 July, 2006, and is attached.

Jay, W1VD, had quite a pipeline to EAR over the years, and he had a
number of impressive receptions, some in the daytime.

I'll miss having the signal to look for. Was just thinking yesterday
that my oldest Icom R75 receiver has a whole ton of 180 kHz channels
programmed, most representing long-absent signals. 188.83 now joins them.

Thanks for having kept EAR on the air over the years, and best wishes
with your upcoming projects.

John, W1TAG
