I don't see an answer to this specific part of Frank's question yet, but
as to mode, that depends on what you're wanting to hear/see. At 1750
meters, QRSS3 is not very effective. Most stations will be using at
least QRSS30 and some will be doing QRSS60.
You can run multiple instances of Argo simultaneously to capture a
greater range of frequencies. But unless you're just curious as to what
you may see on a random basis, there's no point in setting receiver
bandwidth any wider than the span from the lowest frequency where you
expect to hear anything to the highest. One kilohertz for CW in a band
like 1750 m is a potential waste of receiver dynamic range when there's
such a high risk of QRM in that wide a span.
(Re: BFO uncertainty; Argo itself is the quickest tool to tell you what
your receiver's internal offset is in CW mode, if you have no idea.
Switch Argo to NDB mode temporarily and view the noise band on screen.
The center of that band is your "BFO" frequency.)
