Thanks for the excellent information, Jay. Although I presently lack the
sophistication of Spectrum Lab, I'm pretty sure the one I was receiving the
other morning was JJI 22.2 kHz. The frequency was pretty much in the clear
at that time, and a lot of other Pacific Rim stations were present at good
strength, but few east of here.
Early yesterday evening I was picking up what both receivers told me was
22.1, and I'm inclined to believe the one last night was GQD. Further
supporting evidence was a distinct lack of other Asian stations at the time,
and even NWC was much weaker than it was on the morning of the 10th. On the
other hand, VTX4 was coming in, weak but distinct on 19.2, which I didn't
see the other morning, so it's not an open and shut case for GQD. In
addition, residual sidebands from TACAMO on 22.6 (20 dB over S9 here) made
measurement of nearby frequencies a little shaky.
TACAMO was also an intermittent moderately-strong strong visitor on 17.8.
It was really surprising how wide some of the transmissions were!
NAA was good strength, NLF was strong, and NML was as much as S9+50.
Somebody quite strong was also occupying most of the spectrum between
26.2-26.6 kHz. I didn't spend a lot of time above 30 kHz, but TFK was
strong on 37.5, NAU was loud and clear on 40.75, and NSY was holding forth
on 45.9. JJY 40 was visible but not yet audible at that point, but was
there when I returned at 9:30 PM. Before I left the field at 4 AM, JJY was
up to S7 and DCF77 was running S8. That's roughly 16 dB below what DCF77
typically does at that time of night, so that's when I really began to
suspect I had forgotten to remove the shorting strap for the second session.
(In the pre-buffer days, seeing WWVB at S9 was my standard test for
operational integrity, but even with the antenna shorted it now comes in
strong enough to keep the meter pinned. I may have to find some other
weaker but consistent signal at the low end of LF to serve that purpose.)
