Dick & all, I have the AADE LCM I bought from Kanga kits. You can have
it when you pry my cold dead fingers from it! It is indespensible when
building. I have both a Heath QM-1 and Boonton 260 q-meters but the
AADE is so quick to use they seldom get turned on. I hope the Chinese
lcm is half as good. I did take the "chicken route" and bought the AADE
assembled, I think it was $129.00 plus shipping.
Dave wa5wk0 and I used it to measure his ASHLOCK loop, and make a test
coil for bench work to set up the matching network for HSA. In building
the network I found some silver micas marked 2200pf and one marked
222pf. The change in marking threw me as the one marked 222 is also
2200pf. For the small mono caps I have to get out a jewlers loop to
read the markings, with the AADE meter it is quick to read.
I use several of the Harbor Frieght dvm's sold for $4.00. Last trip to
Harbor Frieght my buddy Dave bought a DVM for $19.00 that has 1 inch
letters on the lcd. It also has , in addition to the normal DVM scales
for resistance,current and voltage, a freq meter(0 to 20khz) and a
capacitance meter.
Until Dave receives his lcm and dds generator we won't know the exact
size, meanwhile we are looking for a suitable enclosure. Altoids tins
may be too small. If anyone has an Idea for an enclosure please post it.
