Thanks for the reply and photos. I've had very poor results with active
antennas unless it was placed at least as far away form trees as the
height of the trees. The only open area I have is a field between my
house and the road where a 45 KV power lines runs. When I get away from
the tree line the power line noise gets worse. The Clifton Labs antenna
is very likely superior to any of my home brew active antennas so that
is probably the difference. Guess I'll have to stick with wires and
loops unless I can get an active antenna out the top of a 75 foot tall
tree behind the house.
