"You or somebody modified it for all band transmit then as I don't think it
was
sold that way."

I modified it myself. Out of the box it covered the US Ham bands as well as
MARS/CAP.

"Don't know what you drive but I'd load the 706MKIIG up with a Bugcatcher
antenna on the back of my pickup truck for some fun on HF!!"

At the time, a 1991 Toyota 4Runner. That has been replaced with a 1995 GMC
Suburban K1500.

"3w to activate the autotuner?"

That was in "RF Sense" mode. I did play with that on HF where I could
measure power, at least on HF and according to the tuner specs, the unit
required 3W to activate. It activated instantly and tuned up LF very
quickly, so whatever the output was, it was solid.

"Well legally thats 2 watts over our limit for 1750m but I doubt that I'd
say anything about it if I knew somebody was running 3w instead of 1w on the
band....."

What's the ERP of 3W @ 1750m into a 12' vertical on the back of an
SUV with 4' of the antenna within inches of the vehicle body?

I doubt I'll be doing much LF work mobile with the new setup, but I have an
AS-1729 Military antenna for HF, just need a custom bumper to mount it on...
I'll probably put a stud next to it to run long-wire while parked.

Kurt

TX/RX, 100 KHz - 200 (minus FM broadcast) MHz all mode. I had plans to use
it as an IF for 10 GHz but never got around to experimenting.

I never measured the output on 1750m, I only tuned it up a couple of times,
but the
auto-tuner required a minimum of 3W to activate, so at least that out of the
radio. The tuner was able to match up on 1750m within a few moments, so an
easy task for it. No doubt the system was horribly inefficient.

The MKII has since been retired and the tuner removed when I got rear-ended,
but I have a new MKIIG to play with this year.

Was that for receive only or will it transmit on that frequency? Don't think
it will unless you modified it for all band transmit.
