Peter,
I read the article quickly yesterday. I won't argue with his data at this point, but any conclusion that the receiver is a poor choice for LF work is way off the mark. I have two of these receivers, and use them exclusively at LF/MF. They have produced some nice miracles under difficult conditions at 73, 137 and 185 kHz, and I have no hesitation in recommending the model for this application.
For the price, the construction is quite reasonable. The only repair issues have been with electrolytic capacitors. Since I run the radios 24/7 for frequency stability reasons, I'm not surprised.
