[Lowfer] Lightning

Hello J.B. and all,

Yes I have done as you and have EVERYTHING tied together in the same way on
the grounding side. All towers are tied together and tied to the A/C ground
as well. Seems everytime I buy a another house I have to dig up the A/C
ground and redo it or even if above ground take it off and redo it.
(Especially after getting struck once because it was rusted loose). I have
been fortunate and that was the only time I really got hit. I have taken
some charges from the knobs when I reached for something to turn if off when
really bad outside and decided it could stay on instead!

AND yes after the towers went up the lightning damage seemed to be less. I
personally believe they bleed off the static but I'm no engineer or
anything.

My two cents worth.... "BUT" not familiar with the lowfer equipment and
its susceptibility to static and the like.

73,

Rick WK4R

Hi Andy, Rick, Lowfers,

For what it's worth, I do as Rick and just leave everything on and keep my
fingers crossed. In the 20 years I've been at this QTH, I've only had one
instance of lightning damage. That happened in the first week I was here,
and before any towers where erected, go figure!!

I've got a pretty good grounding system for my three towers, with each one
having its own ground rod(s) and also being tied together and to virtually
everything metal in the immediate area like fences, the mast for my
windmill, etc.

All of my electronic equipment is powered by a Trace Engineering inverter,
which is tied to the grid, but acts as a "buffer" to anything nasty that may
come in on the mains.
