Hi Everyone.
I recently learned about a new chip, the SI570 (available from
www.scilabs.com). It is basically a self contained cmos signal
generator chip that operates from 10 MHz through 900 MHz. It has some
outstanding phase noise ratings and could be a much less expensive
solution than a DDS for those needing frequency agility. It offers
frequency resolution down to the ppb range and can be divided down to
lowfer frequencies with a simple digital divider.
Unlike some other low grade programmable oscillators on the market,
this one is very clean with no spurs and is suitable for receiver
LO's into the VHF range (low phase noise).
The softrock group is doing group buys and there is a PCB available
too, the board can be ordered online with paypal.
