Kenwood TS-440, TS-930, Icom R-75 are all good receivers. SDR (Software 
Defined Radio) receivers are also good. What kind of power output are 
you asking for? Oven oscillators are good for a drift free transmitter. 
Epson programmable oscillators are also good and dirt cheep. You can 
take a HF rig and a mixer and build a transverter.
