Murray's suggested programming cable has a tri-state buffer, so that it is
effectively out of the circuit except when programming commands are issued.
That programming interface also doesn't mind having the R-2R network
connected (better not, since it's soldered in on one of my boards). Murray
suggested not leaving the serial interface and parallel programming cables
connected simultaneously during normal operation. I expect that's a good
idea with any microcontroller circuit -- the less stuff you have connected
to it, the less chance for transients to get in and scramble the memory.
Especially if you have the board sitting on the workbench next to your HF
rig.
