Gone over the edge? Certainly not! That is unless I have also. I have thought about the same need for QRN level indicator. While running SpecLab on HB and DCF39 I had a channel open to monitor noise levels that worked well. Steve's present DCF39 screen shows his local noise level with the blue and green pens:

This works but what would be more useful is a simple circuit that could be roughly calibrated so we could compare our local noise levels. We've certainly got the expertise on this group to come up with a design. I've got a hot iron and a new roll of solder ready.
Still running on your PSK01 but nothing seen since first reprot.
