[Lowfer] Experimental antenna?

I searched for more details on the AMRAD LF experiment, and found this site:

Apparently the earth bipole was 1500 feet long, and the distance to Mitch
was only 324 miles. I expect that the antenna was directional, but the AMRAD
article does not give the antenna orientation. They speculate, though, that
it may have favored skywave rather than groundwave propagation ?? I tried
modeling such an antenna, using large ground radial pads as opposed to
ground rods (my modeling software can't deal with buried wires). Will try to
dig up the results and see what the patterns look like.
