Mike, OK... just letting the center of the coax of my dipole touch the
antenna jack, and with the pre-amp of the radio turned on, I hear nothing
but background hiss at 60 KHz; a long, unbroken tone at 63 KHz; another
long, unbroken tone at 82 KHz; and empty hiss at 100 KHz. I also switched
the coax with a very long #10 AWG insulated wire that stretches a whole long
way across my lot, and I heard the same thing.
I have some power lines that run about 35 feet away from the dipole. Could
those be masking these low signals? I have really good ears, and despite
listening intently with headphones on, that's all I can hear, static. Think
I should try checking the signal from a different location, with a different
receiver?
