In my opinion, it works out much better to turn the auto calibrate off when
using it as a receiver. At the same time, it is usually adequete to leave
the full scale switch on "auto", switching it to "entry" only for extremely
weak signals. The ave (average) switch can help smooth things out when the
range is fluctuating wildly.
