Ok, yes  by my mind should be Y2K problem and only.
Think, You are right abt Y2K problem.  Try on new computer.
Just copy and paste, not other files needed , only LOGPlus! .
You can  copy all LOGplus! directory to some new
computer. Mine is working under WinXP SP2 perfect, also
on all Win95,98 of course. Don't know abt Vista.
I use 4.7 , latest version of LOGPlus! , do not
remember, but maybe with more early versions
Y2K problem exist. As many of users say before - difficult to
find alternative for LOGPlus!.  One of  main  my reasons -
when making import in from ADIF file after some
contest software  (it was WF1B, CT ,Writelog and now N1MM)
I clearly see all new call, DX, bands , modes worked during
this contest and I know to which one I should send out QSL card.
Such a perfect  advantage do not have no any log for today.
Only minus now - can not import QSL status from LoTW.
Checked many of them, no one is so good in this matter.
Closest to perfect is DXkeeper, free and  author is wy active.

Second from free is Logger32, for me interesting due my digital operations.

DX4Win , as heard, working not so bad, and demo working good for me,
transfer from LOGPlus! dbf file directly and not loosing QSL status.
Biggest froblem for ADIF is that all this system was implemented in
full power after LOGPlus! go down.  No any of new softwares can pick
up correctly DXCC if ADIF country  not exist in file.  But here
is a lot of mix with ex YU lands , DL also , OK and OM and so on .
Have 87000 QSOs in my log, in  35 seconds updating DXCC status.
DXKeeper start slow down , Logger32 also a little . Can not recommend
for 100% perfect replacement , such simply not exist.
And last one ,  LOGPlus! is super-safe  system.  What happens if
some of this new logs hangs or in case of black-out , I really do not know.
Try to manage with Y2K  and continue to use....
